Altus Public Schools’ graduates continue to show strong improvement in college readiness, according to data from the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

The most recent data examines the graduating class of 2024, including 79 Altus graduates who enrolled as first-time, degree-seeking freshmen at Oklahoma public colleges and universities.

Of those 79 students, only 12 required some form of developmental education, also known as remediation, resulting in an overall developmental education rate of 15.2 percent.

That means nearly 85 percent of Altus graduates entered college without the need for remedial coursework.

The results are especially encouraging when compared with previous years. Altus' developmental education rate has steadily declined over the past three reporting periods:

  • 2022-23: 25.3%

  • 2023-24: 21.2%

  • 2024: 15.2%

Altus graduates also performed well compared with students across the state. The overall developmental education rate for Oklahoma public higher education in 2024 was 28.7 percent. Altus' rate of 15.2 percent was 13.5 percentage points lower than the statewide rate.

The three-year trend reflects continued progress across the District in preparing Altus students for success beyond high school and ensuring graduates have the academic foundation needed to begin college-level coursework
