Just another day at the APS Bus Barn! As part of his Class to Career Internship, Ayden Nicholas is responsible for keeping the buses and patrol cars clean. Under the guidance of APS Maintenance Director Sammy Cryer, Ayden stays busy working with the many vehicles that make up the district’s fleet. From hands-on maintenance, like learning to change the oil, to learning the day-to-day operations behind the scenes, he’s quickly discovering there’s always something new to learn.

Our Teacher of the Week is Coach Black!

Meet Xeev Hagar, a 12th-grade student in the Class to Career’s Internship program is already making big moves in the world of Information Technology. This semester, he's been working alongside the WOSC IT department, getting real-world experience you can’t find in a textbook. He’s pictured here helping Brian Carpenter, WOSC's Systems Administrator, to remove and troubleshoot a server. He’s also been learning to make and repair network cables, and how to use a FLUKE digital multimeter in diagnosing electrical parameters.

Recognizing our September Top Dogs! For freshmen, we have Lilah Bonds and Jeymon Reed. Sophomores, Brenna Duncan and Ketcher Lamb. Our juniors are Allison Petersen and Elijah Beane. Not pictured are our seniors, Emily Hokett and Caleb Emerson!

Altus High School hosted the Oklahoma City National Memorial’s Journey of Hope program. Students watched a video of the events of April 15, 1995. They also heard from Melanie Hall, a survivor of the bombing and Altus alumna, and Pat Hall, a Memorial Trustee, who spoke to the students about their experiences on April 15, 1995. Melanie Hall is a survivor who was working downtown when the bomb exploded. She discussed the need to use our words and civil discourse to work through our differences instead of turning to violence. Students in attendance learned about the Oklahoma Standard and how they can continue this legacy through acts of kindness.
After the program, Altus FFA officers and members of the National Forest Service planted the Survivor Tree sapling outside of the Ag. facility. The American Elm is a symbol of hope and healing, with saplings planted throughout our nation. Marble from the rubble was used to create a marker that will be placed next to the sapling.

Don't miss this useful information for scholarships, FAFSA, etc.!

We’re proud to recognize Aiden McMaster, one of our outstanding interns from the Class to Career Internship Program. He is currently gaining hands-on experience at our local Fire and EMT Station. He is pictured here with Braddock Abernathy assisting with equipment checks on one of the EMT vehicles. He has also been learning the proper way to wear bunker gear and to do hose pulls.
